Week 4: Entering the Twitterverse!
Hey
everyone!
I have grown up in a generation where using social media is a social
norm and it is almost expected that every person you come across has some sort
of social media accounts. When you meet someone, it is rarely “Hi can I have
your phone number?”, but most likely “Add me on Facebook” or “Hey! What’s your Snapchat?”
Social Media can be an amazing way to communicate with others, but sometimes it
is used in ways that is disrespectful towards others. That is why I was so
surprised that for my current Technology class, we were expected to create a
Twitter account! I couldn’t believe it. My initial thought was “my professor
and classmates want to see all the funny memes and dog videos I share?” but
then my Professor explained that we would be using it is a professional
platform. To be honest with you all, I was hesitant at first, but I love the
idea now! I find myself checking my Twitter regularly throughout the day, and
not just mindlessly scrolling, but actually being interested in what I come
across!
It has
been about 4 weeks since we created our twitter accounts and it has been so
enlightening! I have come across countless ideas that I would love to
incorporate in my future classroom. However, I must say my favorite thing that
I have experienced on twitter so far, is getting in contact with a teacher I
had in middle school! I came across an article that mentioned her so I
retweeted it and talked about how she was an amazing teacher and how I looked
forward to attending art class every day because of her. She then commented on
it and she couldn’t believe it! I was so thankful that I was able to give her
the recognition she deserved. That wouldn’t have been possible without the use
of Twitter! I was grateful to be able to reach out to a teacher I had so many
years ago! I look forward to having other amazing experiences on Twitter!
Thanks for listening!!
