Week 3: The Power of Storytelling
Good afternoon everybody! When I
was a child, and even still today, I loved being told stories and reading stories.
Fantasy has always been my favorite because it tells about things that I could
never experience in the real world. While hearing a fantasy story, I could escape reality for even just a little while and enter a completely new world. For as long as I can remember, I also loved hearing and learning about different myths and all about
mythology. I think it is such an amazing way to make sense of things that
happen in nature and provided creative explanations as to why things are the way they are. I even loved hearing stories from my grandparents about their
childhoods and how different things were back then. The power of storytelling
is so incredible and oftentimes passed down from generation to generation.
This week, we had some readings about
how storytelling has advanced from simply telling a story to someone face to
face. Now, we can tell stories to countless people at once by creating a
digital story. One of our resources did a great job of explaining that often
times, people only expect story telling projects from English classes, which
you would think would make sense. However, there are countless different ways
that story telling can be used, such as telling creating myths or legends, like
mentioned in our readings. Personally, I have never created a digital story for
an English class, but I have created them for several other classes. I have
used WeVideo to create digital stories in two different computer classes, my
Animal Behavior class, an Entrepreneurship class, and a Mythology class. We
also used Audacity is all of these classes to create our narrations. I’ve
always enjoyed using WeVideo because it has so many amazing features that you
can include in your video and it really allows our creativity to flow. I love
that our resources this week gives several ideas for different ways to have
your curriculum connect to storytelling that I would have never even thought
of.
Have a great week everyone!!
